The European
Union INSPIRE Directive and your spatial data
|
Directive 2007/2/EC of the European Parliament
established the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the
European Community (INSPIRE) so that spatial or geographical
information from a wide range of sources, from the local level to
the global level, can be accessed in an inter-operable way for a
variety of uses.
|
"The initiative
intends to trigger the creation of a European spatial information
infrastructure that delivers to the users integrated spatial
information services. These services should allow the users to
identify and access spatial or geographical information from a wide
range of sources, from the local level to the global level, in an
inter-operable way for a variety of uses. The target users of
INSPIRE include policy-makers, planners and managers at European,
national and local level and the citizens and their organisations." (INSPIRE)
|
The Commission decision of 5 June 2009
implements this directive for monitoring and reporting spatial data sets, and these regulations are now adopted.
Each spatial data set your
organisation holds is required
to have a description attached.
These descriptions are called METADATA
and have a specific set of elements and a prescribed format.
Do your
spatial data sets comply with these new regulations?
